Behind our Finance Team

Stronger financing means more opportunities for our customers. While the finance team isn’t usually in the limelight, their duties are vital to our daily operations. CFO David Starr leads that team.David Starr
Chief Financial OfficerWhen did you start at Edlong?
I joined Edlong in May 2012 (I recently celebrated my 4 year work anniversary). How would you describe your typical day?
I work on various projects, as well as doing the day-to-day financial oversight of the company’s assets. I am typically working on financial statements, reviewing contracts or reviewing Non-Disclosure Agreements, and working on various growth initiatives such as international expansion or distribution agreements.

What’s your favorite part about working here?
It’s never boring. There is always something challenging that arises every day and because finance is such an integral part of the entire organization, the work requires interaction with other departments. That in particular is highly rewarding.

Is there a project, event, etc. that sticks out in your mind or a favorite memory that you might have from your time here?
I have only been here for four years, but I was really excited when we opened our Ireland facility. It felt personally rewarding, not only because it was a milestone for Edlong, but because it took a long time to negotiate a lease.

How does what you do impact Edlong’s customers?
Finance is an integral part (and often one that is ‘in the background’) of what we do. I work with our Chief Commercial Officer on pricing, I review NDAs and other agreements that help Edlong reduce risk and protect our intellectual property.

How does your work make Edlong better?
I would like to think that if I am doing my job, Edlong is more secure financially and that means more benefits to its shareholders and employees, and subsequently more opportunities for our customers.

Favorite food.

One thing your coworkers might not know about you.
I don’t sleep much and I am fluent in Russian.

Your favorite thing to do for fun.
Watch and play soccer and spend as much time as I can with my family.

Any other anecdotes or stories about a time that you took a special pride in your work, or an interesting story about your time at Edlong?
Edlong took a big chance on hiring me as I had no prior food manufacturing experience. I am extremely happy to be part of the Edlong family and continue to learn the business every day I am here.
