Production. Safety. Training. Waste management. Uniforms. Dustin Miraldi helps Edlong and our customers thrive in many important ways. Read about this President’s Choice Award Winner’s favorite pasta dish, and his rosy memory of a discussion with Gene Rondenet about gardening.
When did you start at Edlong?
I joined Edlong in July 1996, working in shipping and receiving.
How would you describe your typical day?
Most days are different. I generally start at 4:00am, meeting and greeting the operations team, which includes the Plant Supervisor, Production Supervisor and Flavor Production Specialists. Later, I attend more meetings in our other buildings, or I work on planning. I might be planning for production activities or other areas that I am responsible for, including safety, employee uniforms and waste management.
Every month, I meet with the group at 225 Scott (Operations Planning, Warehouse Manager and Sanitation), or more often as needed. It’s one way we stay connected with our different buildings.
In addition, I am the chairperson for our safety committee. I do monthly safety training with our production, QA and maintenance staff. Also, I keep our Automated External Defibrillators up to date and organize our CPR, first aid and AED training.
What’s your favorite part about working here?
Is there a project, event, etc. that sticks out in your mind or a favorite memory that you might have from your time here?
I enjoy watching the company grow. We have come a long way since I started 20 years ago!
How does what you do impact Edlong’s customers?
My team and I make sure our customers get their products when they need them.
The Operations team often come in on weekends—either to clean and sanitize, or produce product, to ensure that our specialists can begin their flavor production or to meet our customers’ tight timelines.
How does your work make Edlong better?
I help ensure customer satisfaction. Because the more they’re pleased, the better chance they will return.

Your favorite thing to do for fun.

Any other anecdotes or stories about a time that you took a special pride in your work, or an interesting story about your time at Edlong? Maybe you solved a problem, tried something new or supported your co-workers to help them with something critical.
In 1998, I won The President’s Choice award and received it from Mr. Rondenet. It was very special. I miss having him around and chatting with him.
Here’s one of my favorite Mr. Rondenet stories. When I bought my house, the previous owner had rose bushes on the property. I didn’t know much about maintaining them. I went over to the 265 office and Mr. Rondenet asked me how the new house was going. I mentioned the rose bushes, and we had a 30-minute conversation about the best way to take care of them. From how much water, to how to prune them, I was honored that he took the time to discuss roses with me.
