ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL [February 23, 2016]—Edlong Dairy Technologies launched their new sweet milk flavors inspired by naturally sweet and creamy dairy products. As legislative pressures rise to reduce sugar, and consumer mandates grow to satisfy sweet cravings, the motivation for new approaches to help balance consumer flavor and label demands in a variety of applications is increasing.
The American Heart Association recommends American women consume no more than 100 calories per day (about 6 teaspoons) of sugar and for men, no more than 150 calories per day (about 9 teaspoons). Concern for and awareness of added sugars is likely to rise if the FDA’s proposed changes to nutritional labeling are approved, requiring additives to be called out separately and creating a greater emphasis on calorie load.
Edlong’s new line of sweet flavors delivers an innovative set of tools to complement sugar reduction formulation strategies. Because these flavors do not specifically impart traditional dairy profiles in sensory perception, they find success in any application, including those that do not traditionally have dairy ingredients.
“Our flavors heighten the perception of sweetness, while also adding a smooth, rich note to dairy and non-dairy applications,” says Jennifer Lowry, Edlong’s Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “Since our launch, they have been so well-received in a variety of formulations, anywhere from beverages to baked goods to frozen desserts.”
These natural, Kosher Pareve flavors meet consumer demand for lower levels of added sugar, while ensuring a sweet, crave-able and smooth tasting product.
